More than 100,000 children’s masks donated to Children Mending Hearts, Children’s Institute, Children’s Action Network and Planet Hope serving disadvantaged kids in Los Angeles

The Millions of Masks for Children and SmartAID team recently delivered more than 100,000 masks donated by FLTR, a leading supplier of a wide range of personal protective equipment (PPE), to disadvantaged kids in Los Angeles in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 in an area that has been ravaged by the pandemic during the past several months. Special thanks for DHL and DHL Express for helping us deliver masks to several nonprofits serving children throughout the Los Angeles area including Children Mending Hearts, Children’s Institute, Children’s Action Network and Planet Hope.

The delivery of the protective masks to Children Mending Hearts at the Watts Empowerment Center in Los Angeles was covered by KTLA in this news story. The Watts Empowerment Center is known for being the most active community center in Los Angeles and is a state-of-the-art facility committed to helping children, youth and families within the Watts Housing Projects.

Los Angeles resident Sara Ell, a volunteer helping the Millions of Masks for Children and SmartAID team, helped deliver the masks to kids with Children Mending Hearts at the Watts Empowerment Center. “Children Mending Hearts founded by Lysa Heslov opened an incredible outdoor learning Centre for the hard-hit Watts community servicing children from age 4 to 12. CMH teaches empathy to the children and they were so excited to get the masks and share them with each other,” said Sara. “It was so incredible seeing the excitement on their faces as they looked at the different masks and how they helped unload the boxes from the DHL truck.  They are so happy at the amazing outdoor school Lysa and program director Siobhan have created.”

Other nonprofits receiving donations of protective masks included the Children’s Institute, Children’s Action Network, and Planet Hope, a nonprofit founded by Sharon Stone and her sister Kelly Stone with a mission to empower and embolden those living in crisis and to inspire hope in their daily lives.

In addition, DHL helped the Millions of Masks for Children Initiative by donating their flight transport services to ship 90 boxes of children’s masks to Albuquerque, New Mexico to the Navajo Nation Organization as recommended by CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), a nonprofit co-founded by Sean Penn with a mission to save lives and strengthen communities affected by or vulnerable to crises.

Thanks again to all of the organizations and individuals involved in making our latest deliveries of donated masks to the Los Angeles area a success! We’re all working hard to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help save lives.
